Management :Anti -psychotic drugs go hand in hand with clinical counseling (Psychological and social supports ).
Hospitalization is required in severe episodes of schizophrenia either voluntarily (with the consent of the patient )and or involuntarily (with force and sedation if the laws so permits ).
Long term hospitalization is uncommon .The modern view is :let the patient go to the society for rehabilitation and adjust .Isolation does not help in the long run .Also in countries like India admission to a mental hospital like IBHAAS(Institute of behavioral health and allied sciences ,Shahdara -Delhi),NIMHANS (National institute of mental health and Neuro-sciences,Banglore ), PGI,Chandigarh (Postgraduate institute of medical education and research )and at Ranchi ,Agra,PGI Rohtak , to name a few is tricky .There are hardly 40000 psychiatrist ,less than 1 per lac of population .
According to some studies regular exercise has a positive effect on the physical and mental health of schizophrenic .
