'Night milk ' helps improve sleep .

Jaggery and hot milk takes away all the days fatigue, was the preaching of Dadaji. Now science confirms this conventional knowledge. This oral communication travels from generations.
A german company has patented its product - 'night milk' taken from cows, which help improve sleep. Munich-based firm Milchkristalle said that it says contain high levels of 'sleep hormone' melatonin. Melatonin helps regulate the sleep-wake cycle by causing drowsiness and lowing the body temperature.
Melatonin: It is a hormone derived from serotonin and secreted by the pineal gland that produces changes in the skin colour of vertebrates, reptiles and amphibians and is important in regulating biorhythms.
It is a hormone produced by the pineal gland in darkness but not in bright light .Melatonin receptors in the brain ,in a nucleus immediately above the the optic chaism ,react to this hormone and synchronize the nucleus to the 24 hr day -night rhythm ,thus informing the brain when it is day when it is night .It is a derivative of serotonin ,with which it works to regulate the sleep cycle and is being used experimentally to treat jet lag ,SAD ,and insomnia in shift workers and the elderly .
