Tripura Governor Tathagata Roy said that those who attended 1993 Mumbai bomb blasts convict Yakub Memon’s funeral could be possible terrorists.
Tripura Governor Tathagata Roy, sparking a controversy, said those who attended in the funeral of Yakub Memon, the 1993 Mumbai serial blast convict, apart from family members and closed friends, could be possible terrorists and intelligence agencies should keenly watch on them.
“Intelligence should keep a tab on all (expt relatives & close friends) who assembled bfrYakub Memon’s corpse. Many are potential terrorists (sic),” Roy said in a tweet.
As the remarks sparked a row, the 70-year-old governor, backing his tweet, said when Governors ought to be concerned about security of state and intelligence keeping tab on Yakub’s mourners is preventing terror. “Governors ought to be concerned abt security of state. Intelligence keeping tab on Yakub’s mourners is preventing terror. Better than cure”, he tweeted.
He further clarifies that he mention no community when he suggested ‘intelligence keeping on tab’. “When I suggested ‘intelligence keeping a tab’, I mentioned NO COMMUNITY. So how come I’m accused of being ‘communal bigot’? Guilty conscience?,” he tweets.
After a serial of tweet, the Governor extended his greetings of “Guru Purnima”. He tweets, “An explosion of tweets on a hanged terrorist almost made me forget the most important tweet: GURU PURNIMA GREETINGS to all.”
